The Countries of Asia
1. The Chinese People's Republic. Geographical Position and Natural Features
For many years the people of China struggled for freedom and independence. But it was the crushing defeat inflicted by the Soviet Army on the Japanese imperialists in 1945 that made possible the victory of the popular revolution.

Quantity and Density of Population. The Chinese People's Republic numbers over 700,000,000 people. Most densely populated is Eastern China, where the number of people reaches 800 to the square kilometre.
3. The Mongolian People's Republic
The Mongolian People's Republic was established in 1924 as the result of a popular revolution.
It is situated between two socialist countries — the Soviet Union and the Chinese People's Republic, and numbers about 1,000,000 inhabitants, the majority of which are Mongols.
4. The Korean People's Democratic Republic. The Democratic Republic of Viet-Nam
The Division of Korea. Korea was a colony of Japan for dozens of years. It was only after the defeat of the Japanese militarists in World War II that Korea rid itself of colonial rule.
5. India. Natural Features
India comprises the Peninsula of Hindustan, the Indo-Gangetic Plain in the north and the southern slopes of the Himalayas. For two centuries this great country was a colony of Great Britain
6. Population and Economic Activities
Quantity of Population. Ethnic Structure. The Republic of India has a population of over 470,000,000. The average density of population in the country is high: over 135 persons to the square kilometre.
7. Brief Survey of the Countries of Indo-China
Besides Viet-Nam, there are several capitalist countries on the Peninsula of Indo-China. The largest is Burma, in the north-west of the peninsula, with a population of 22,000,000. Burma was for many years a colony of Great Britain.
8. Republic of Indonesia
Indonesia (insular India) is one of the largest countries of Asia. It consists of the islands lying between Asia and Australia, including such large islands as Kalimantan (Borneo), Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi (Celebes! of the Greater Sunda group and a vast number of smaller islands and islets, almost 3,000 in all.
9. Japan
Japan is an Asiatic state which consists of four large and a great number of smaller islands.
Japan is a seafaring nation. Communications between the various! islands and other countries are maintained by sea. Its shores are! richly indented, and the many bays make excellent harbours.
10. Brief Survey of the Countries of South-Western Asia
On the peninsula of Asia Minor lies Turkey with a population of over 29,000,000. Its capital is Ankara. Part of the area of Turkey, moreover, falls within Europe, facing the Sea of Marmara, the Bosporus and the Dardanelles.
